The Foundations program has been developed to provide you a basis on which to get started at Laurier. Throughout the four days we have attempted to weave in short information presentations with deans, faculty peers and academic support staff with longer hands-on interactive sessions. Click here for the agenda. The conversation continues with the Foundations for New Faculty Community of Practice, one of five offered by Teaching Support Services.
Specifically, the program is designed to:
engage you in conversation about teaching and learning promoting discussion and reflection on teaching related matters, and identify strategies for success,
provide a forum to network(social/professional) with faculty colleagues, administrators, and support staff from across campus,
explore services and supports available to you in support of your academic/professional roles,
assist in preparing you for fall and winter courses (e.g. syllabus design, first class meetings, classroom management),
introduce you to classroom spaces and various educational technologies, and
connect you with the Laurier community.
Each day will begin in a new location. The printed program provided on day one includes a campus map and room locations for each day and session. Support staff will be on hand throughout the four days to guide you to each location. Note too that refreshments will be provided every morning and that lunch each day is sponsored by a different group and will begin with a short presentation before breaking for the meal.
